International Conference on Maritime Salvage: Where do we stand?

Maritime Salvage

The maritime salvage aims to rescue a ship in danger. Based on solidarity at sea, maritime salvage may be the result of any ship, but it comes mainly from ships designed specifically for this purpose; tugs.

Various stakeholders are involved in relief operations which include, salvage companies, insurance companies, shipping companies, Flag State, Port State, Coastal State, etc.

In this context, many regulatory, technical and operational elements govern the relationships and interactions between the various stakeholders in maritime salvage. In order to improve maritime safety and protect the marine environment, these elements have undergone substantial development in recent years.

To better understand these relationships and know the latest developments in maritime salvage, the Institut maritime du Québec, in collaboration with its research center Innovation maritime, is hosting an international conference on the subject.

The Conference entitled “Maritime Salvage: Where do we stand?” is to be held in Quebec March 15, 2012, at:

Espace Dalhousie Terminal de croisières Ross-Gaudreault

The event will provide a forum for professionals, governmental and non-governmental and the private sector to discuss regulatory, technical and operational issues on maritime salvage.
