Marine Safety and Security

With its in-depth knowledge of vessels, port operations and marine transport regulations, Innovation maritime has carried out many different safety projects. Innovation maritime can also access specialised installations where new marine safety and security technologies can be tested.
The increased preoccupation with security has not gone unnoticed by the maritime industry, particularly when it comes to port operations which are open doors to business and through which traffic in illicit terrorist materials may pass. Since July 1st, 2004, all commercial vessels entering Canada or the United States must meet new marine security standards introduced through regulations passed by both countries in application of the ISPS Code. Ship owners and all Canadian medium to large port authorities and all terminals for these ports, must now have approved security plans.
In marine safety, the industry’s major concern is to move people and goods from one location to another efficiently, within expected delays and safely. Most vessels must also meet the equipment requirements for the safety of human life at sea, as decreed by international agreements.
Innovation maritime is working on developing a training and decision-making tool for marine safety. These tools are intended for port officials, navigators and other maritime company representatives.
